Cobwebs on the Borderlands, Session 2

The party wander through a heavily-wooded valley, with steep cliffs on either side. Among the foliage, they find a cave. As they get closer to it, a series of explosions occur from all around them, as a tornado of birds erupt in flight. Brindar, Ryka and Fineas take 4 damage as superheated crystal shards penetrate their skin. They have been shot by a gang of troglins hiding among the trees. The gang fail their initiative rolls, so the troglins act first. They fire another volley, no longer with the advantage of surprise and stealth, and the party are unscathed. Furthermore, the troglins' locations have been discovered. Brindar rushes a troglin and deals 3 damage, killing it outright. Ryka stabs with her spear, and kills another. Fineas takes a shot, at a -1 penalty due to cover, but hits anyway, killing another troglin. Nimbus shoots a beam with his staff, and injures a troglin. The troglins have suffered 3.5 losses in 1 round, and try to flee back into the forest. Nimbus blast...

Cobwebs on the Borderlands, Session 1

The party's home village was located in the foothills of the Ring Mountains, to the south of Dragon Lake. The Fish Kingdom fell some months ago, and since then, the village has been quickly depopulating. It is abundantly clear that there is no future for them there, and they must seek a new path.      They have received a letter from an old friend named Nweng who left some weeks ago. Unlike most, who headed towards the southern heartland and the capital city of Rock Town, she ventured into the hills, to a fortified settlement known as Bordland Keep. She says that life there is no picnic, but there is good to be done, and wealth & glory to be won for those bold enough to claim it. Enclosed in the letter is a simple map.      The party has been following the map for days. Through rain and sun they have ventured by foot. At last, as the sun sets over the western Ring Mountains, they catch sight of Bordland Keep, smoke rising from hearths obscured by a ...

Session Report 16/05/21

The doors of the Wheel of Cheese burst open as the Friends of Grik enter after a day of adventuring. The sight of a party a few adventurers short may have been more reassuring than the one that presented itself to the stupefied patrons. Graden is the worst. His peg leg singed and splintered, he hops with his arm around Ethex's shoulder. His scalp is scarred and disfigured, his wild hair burned away. The ends of his beard are burned black and the sides are dyed an odd fluorescent green. Worse yet, the party looks like they travel light this evening, with nary a bag of silver between them. Our plan was simple: rescue the merchants to weaken the position of the hobgoblins. Our first stop, as is often the case, was Rocky, to seek information about their position. On our way, we stopped at the room of charred silhouettes and managed to draw a large marble of magnificent blue crystal from the wall. Rocky was in no mood to talk and seemed unable to answer a single question ... odd, for he...

Sundays in Stonehell 18/04/21 Hot House Herb Hunt

Image
Our quest began as a tip off that an eccentric alchemist by the name of Velky the Verdant was in need of some rare and special herbal specimens from Stonehell's Hot House - a point far deeper than we had yet dared to venture. Any who delve these tunnels should keep an eye out for boffluff bush berries, vampiric dandelions, the octoshrub, the ambulatory tryphidd and the eumyfolk, all of which can fetch a fine price with any alchemist. Beware, however, their unexpected hostility. Our party consisted of Graden Greenlung, Orthax, Grüngebeard the Tall, Trinius Hemloc and Cruxis and his sidekick Nadir. They were accompanied by old Galfred, a young monk by the name of Cleffort and Skiffle, nephew of our beloved ally, the late Skuttleweed. It didn't take long for trouble to arise, as hobgoblins were guarding their borders in force, hurling insults at us and begging to be thrashed. To his credit, Grüngebeard, our only goblin-speaker, bit his tongue and didn't give in to their terrib...

Sundays in Stonehell 04/04/21 Easter Special

Image
These pages are written to eternalise the great adventure of Graden Greenlung, Fryedah Wayelze, Scuttleweed the Torchbearer and Percian Maldicott III. Dictated by Mr Greenlung, who is an uneducated boor  out of the habit of writing. We were employed by the powerful mage known as Hazzervrim the Iridescent to retrieve the rare and valuable eggs of the fearsome owlbear, for the princely sum of 1,000GP per egg from a mysterious glade in the Dolmenwood where the ancient oak stands. We were quick to agree on these generous terms and headed off forthwith. Our one instruction was to go right and then head straight on until we passed the Hall of Guardians. I have long coveted the hide of the owlbear, but as you will learn, this was not to be among our prizes. With the help of the trusty Scuttleweed, we found our destination without issue. Young Percian led the way down the hole that gaped between the roots of the great tree. Our going was fair at first, following the fresh prints in the hum...

Sundays in Stonehell Report 21/03/21

We started out in the Rat-on-the-Stick, the finest bar in Korner, which says absolutely nothing about the ramshackle establishment. At the table of heroes sit Grüngebeard the Tall, Clarence (or as I have styled him, Clarence the Green), Orthax Broadjaw, Winnie the cleric, Fryedah Wayelze and Skylos Dungstab. The party was peacefully imbibing the tavern’s ale is as thick, black and bitter as liquified charcoal, they were interrupted by the kobold warden, who reminded our heroes that their mission was to clear out the hobgoblins from the level below. Clarence had the bright idea of acquiring a cask of ale to win the favour of their enemy, and upon learning that free casks are awarded to those who can outdrink the landlord, he took up the challenge alongside some of his new allies while Minnie prepared a hangover cure. Clarence defeated Grogg in a decisive victory, winning his friendship and amulet of sobriety. Our heroes set off down to level 3, where the hobgoblins lurk and found three ...
